First of Its Kind Piling Frame Installed in North America

At Ratio Structural Engineering (RSE), we are proud to announce a major milestone at the Woodfibre LNG project site — the safe installation of the “Spudnik”, a rotating piling frame mounted on its nearly 2m O.D. monopile rock-socketed in the steep seabed 🌊.

🚀 This marks the first application of this cutting-edge piling technique in North America, setting the template for the installation of the permanent piles that will support the future jacket structure of the mooring dolphins. Unlike traditional piling frame methods, this innovative approach eliminates the need for pin piles.

The Spudnik, designed by RSE,
✅ Rotates on its monopile to accurately install 3–6 permanent piles at each location.
⚖️ The balanced 167Mt frame supports not only a 64Mt BUMA 2500 rotator, but also 100Mt of offices, equipment, and counterweight.
🎯 Given the steep underwater slope and challenging seabed conditions, this forward-thinking method delivers significant schedule improvements while ensuring safety and precision.
